In the constant pursuit of innovative and effective solutions to address challenges in the fluid conduit industry, DBVservices is proud to be a part of the CUIDETECT project. This ambitious project focuses on detecting defects in conduit pipes caused by CUI (Corrosion Under Insulation), a problem that can have a devastating impact on pipe integrity and the operations of many industries.
What is CUI, and Why Is It Worth Addressing?
CUI, or Corrosion Under Insulation, is a corrosive phenomenon that occurs when moisture penetrates the insulation of a pipe and comes into contact with the metal surface. This can lead to corrosion of the metal, even in conduit systems that were considered protected. The effects of CUI can be insidious and difficult to detect with the naked eye, making it a particularly challenging problem.
CUI is a significant issue for various industries, including petrochemicals, energy, shipbuilding, and construction. Damage caused by CUI can result in the loss of structural integrity of pipes, leaks of hazardous chemicals, and costly production disruptions. Furthermore, repairing corroded pipes can be expensive and complex.
Therefore, effectively addressing CUI is essential to prevent significant material and economic damage, ensure safety and operational efficiency, and reduce environmental impact.
Collaboration with Strategic Partners
DBVservices is not alone in this crucial mission. We collaborate closely with four renowned strategic partners in the CUIDETECT project: INNESPERC TECHNOLOGIES, ROBOLAN INGENIERÍA ROBÓTICA, HEREON, and NUROMEDIA GMBH. This partnership allows us to leverage the combined expertise and knowledge of these leading technology and engineering companies.
INNESPERC TECHNOLOGIES is a leader in research and development of advanced technologies for corrosion detection and monitoring. Their expertise in sensors and inspection systems plays a crucial role in the early detection of CUI.
ROBOLAN INGENIERÍA ROBÓTICA brings its experience in automation and robot control, which is essential for conducting precise and safe inspections in hard-to-reach areas.
HEREON, a leading research center in the application of advanced technologies in industry, contributes innovative solutions to effectively address CUI.

Support from the CIDETEC Technological Center
In addition to our partners, the CUIDETECT project is backed by the CIDETEC Technological Center, a top-tier research institution. CIDETEC’s participation ensures that the project is based on the latest research and development in the field of corrosion and defect detection in conduit pipes.
Development of PEC and EMAT Technologies: DBVservices’ Contribution
The heart of this innovative project lies in the development and application of advanced technologies for detecting corrosion under insulation. Two key technologies being used in this project are PEC (Pulsed Eddy Current) and EMAT (Electromagnetic Acoustic Transducer).
PEC is a technology that uses pulsed electrical currents to detect changes in the electrical conductivity of a material, which can reveal the presence of corrosion or defects. On the other hand, EMAT uses electromagnetically generated ultrasonic waves to inspect material integrity and detect anomalies.
DBVservices brings its extensive experience in pipe installation design, structural calculation, and industrial integration to further enhance these technologies and their application in the CUIDETECT project. This synergistic collaboration promises a comprehensive and effective approach to addressing corrosion under insulation.
- Pipe Installation Design: Proper layout and design of pipes are fundamental to ensuring operational efficiency and long-term durability. DBVservices contributes its expertise in planning and designing pipe installations that minimize conditions conducive to CUI and optimize accessibility for future inspections.
- Structural Calculation: Structural integrity of pipes is essential to prevent leaks and accidents. DBVservices focuses on precise structural calculation to ensure that pipes are robust and secure, even in environments prone to corrosion.
- Industrial Integration: Implementing new technologies in industry can be challenging but also an opportunity to improve efficiency and safety. DBVservices works on the effective integration of PEC and EMAT technologies into existing pipe inspection and maintenance processes, ensuring a smooth and effective transition to a more advanced approach.
This strategic collaboration among DBVservices, INNESPERC TECHNOLOGIES, ROBOLAN INGENIERÍA ROBÓTICA, HEREON, NUROMEDIA GMBH, and with the support of the CIDETEC Technological Center, promises to elevate the detection and prevention of CUI to a higher level. We are eager to share the progress and results of this exciting project with the business and technology community and to contribute to the safety, sustainability, and profitability of industrial operations. Stay tuned for more updates on advances in CUI detection and its impact.
